The title says it all. To further the goal of this blog – being a voice for the proletariat – I plan to begin a steady stream of comments and debates against conservative and fascist ideologies. Hopefully I’ll open open their eyes… if not, I’ll at least give them something to think about.

“How would you get food without money?”

A question was left ringing in my ears today. While discussing socialism a friend asked me “How would you get food without money”, and my jaw hit the floor. It’s a mark of the extent of capitalist brainwashing that one can grow up believing the world resolves around money. Indeed, I’d go so far as to call money the God of the twenty-first century.

Marx wrote that the search for profit has torn down all traditional boundaries, transforming relationships of love into nothing more than mere financial arrangements. In my opinion, money has done more than transform – it has destroyed and defiled much that was once called sacred. Money has become our God. It is a sad truth that people do not wake up and wonder how they will serve God, or their fellow humans, or anything noble. No, they instead wake up and wonder how they will make money – how they will serve the bourgeois – how they will survive!

What does humanity worship? We may go to a church/mosque/temple etc for an hour each week, but what does humanity truly worship? Think about it for a moment – what do people think about regularily? What brings people together or (much more often) tear them apart? What guides our actions, our thoughts, our life?

The answer, it appears to me, is money! Nothing has more influence on one’s life than cold-hard-cash. An incredibly depressing realization, but something that everyone must come to terms with. Once we accept this reality, we can work to change it!

Before we can bring peace to the world, we must bring socialism. Before we can bring socialism to the world, we must bring socialism to ourselves. While the Left strives for an external revolution, we must all perpetuate internal revolutions. We cannot change the world until we have changed ourselves.

Socialists must never forget that our objective is change. We cannot, indeed we must not become reactionary. Only by pushing forward can we accomplish our goals. The future is molded by the present, and it is our duty to mold a present that will lead to socialism. This socialist future cannot be brought about by an individual, or by a single group. The end to capitalism will only be brought when the world-wide left unites, and Social Democrats stand shoulder to shoulder with hardened Trotskyites. The proletariat will only be freed of its chains when there is a united voice for freedom and equality, a united front against exploitation.

The People’s Voice is dedicated to socialism – evolutionary and revolutionary, internally and externally focused. I believe in what I wrote above, and hope that The Voice will help to inspire socialist change both individually and communally. An incredibly lofty goal, but it always helps to set the bar high. If I can contribute to one conservative reconsidering his or her position, or if I can help a single socialist to grow, this ’blog’ will be worth every minute I put into it!
